CANADA: Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan is leading a Sarawak delegation on a technical study visit to British Columbia to explore best practices in the mining industry.

According to a statement yesterday (Jun 6), the visit aims to benchmark against Canada’s renowned sustainable mining practices, technological advancements, and robust regulatory framework.

During the visit, the delegation toured Queen Elizabeth Park, a former quarry site transformed into a green space for recreational and educational purposes.

“This rehabilitation initiative, part of Vancouver’s green lung, has not only benefited the local community but also become a tourist attraction.

“This rehabilitation initiative is part of the green lung in Vancouver that has created various opportunity that benefitted the local community as well as a tourist attraction,” it said.

Accompanying Awang Tengah were Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Len Talif Salleh and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Syed Aman Ghazali.

State Attorney General Datuk Saferi Ali, State Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Economic Planning Unit Director Datuk Lester Matthew and Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development permanent secretary Datuk Abdullah Julaihi were also present.
