KUCHING: Two business premises suspected of operating online gambling centres have its power supply cut-off during a recent operation by the police in collaboration with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).
Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said that the joint operation was carried out at Jalan Padungan and Jalan Stampin on Monday (June 10).
“This action was conducted in accordance with the authority granted under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 (Act 289).
“Under the provisions of this section, any premises that has had its power supply disconnected, cannot have it restored without written permission from the district police chief,” he said in a statement.
Ahsmon stated that the purpose of implementing this law was to combat the surge in gambling activities, particularly in Kuching.
From January until today, Kuching police and SEB have disconnected the power supply to a total of 23 premises including residences and shop houses.
