KUCHING: Immigration officers arrested 18 individuals of various foreign nationalities in a series of operations here on Tuesday (June 11).

The operations focused on eateries, convenience stores and residences around Sekama, Kota Sentosa, Tabuan Jaya and Sungai Maong.

Acting on complaints, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit checked the travel documents of 55 individuals, out of whom 18 were arrested.

The foreign detainees were found to be overstaying, lacking valid travel documents and permits to stay in Malaysia.

All of them are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.

The department assured that continuous efforts will be made to locate and arrest foreigners and employers found to be violating immigration laws.

The public is encouraged to provide any information on the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
