KUALA LUMPUR: SPOTV, a prominent media platform in Asia known for its extensive sports content, has inked a significant agreement with Malaysia’s leading satellite solutions provider, MEASAT, aiming to deliver top-tier global sports content to fans across the Asia Pacific.

This partnership aims to enhance SPOTV’s playout operations by utilising MEASAT’s advanced teleport and broadcast facilities at the MEASAT Teleport and Broadcast Centre (MTBC) in Cyberjaya.

Previously, SPOTV had selected MEASAT for satellite capacity and uplink services on the MEASAT-3d satellite.

MEASAT chief commercial officer Ganendra Selvaraj expressed gratitude for SPOTV’s confidence, highlighting that it reflects MEASAT’s capability to serve as a comprehensive solutions provider for broadcast partners.

“We thank SPOTV for their confidence in choosing the MEASAT Teleport and Broadcast Centre to host their playout operations.

“This expansion from our previous service, where MEASAT supported uplinking of SPOTV channels via the MEASAT-3a satellite since 2019 followed by MEASAT-3d in early 2024, demonstrates our capability to support broadcast partners as a single-stop solutions provider in today’s diversified media industry landscape,” he said.

This collaboration marks a crucial step in enhancing broadcast capabilities in the Asia Pacific, ensuring seamless and efficient delivery of sports content to audiences.

SPOTV offers its content through two regional live and on-demand channels, SPOTV and SPOTV2, available via affiliate partners across the Asia Pacific and the SPOTV NOW multi-device streaming platform and app.

SPOTV’s content lineup includes high-profile events such as UEFA EURO 2024, MotoGP, BWF World Tour, major World Table Tennis events, grand slam tennis tournaments like Wimbledon and the US Open, and key golf events including LIV Golf, The Masters, and The Open Championship.

SPOTV chief executive officer Lee Choong Khay said that the expanded partnership with MEASAT helps SPOTV mitigate risks associated with last-mile dependencies and provides the option to use MEASAT’s broadcast centre facilities for exclusive content production.

“We are pleased to expand our partnership with MEASAT by locating our playout operations for broadcasting the best sports content across the Asia Pacific at the state-of-the-art MEASAT Teleport and Broadcast Centre.

“Supported by MEASAT’s comprehensive Data Centre, Teleport, and Satellite uplink services, this one-stop solutions package allows us to avoid potential risks associated with last mile dependencies and offers the option to utilise MEASAT’s broadcast centre facilities to produce exclusive content,” he said.

MEASAT’s teleport services have gained industry recognition, being one of only two Southeast Asian teleport operators ranked among the World Teleport Association’s Top Teleport Operators.

In 2023, MEASAT was ranked 11th among Global Top Operators and 10th among Fast Operators.

Since 2008, MEASAT has consistently ranked among the Top Operators, achieving this distinction 11 times, including nine consecutive years, and has made the Fast Operators list nine times within the same period.
