MIRI: The Young Engineers Section (YES) of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Miri Branch recently organised an engagement visit to the Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) office here.
The visit, led by YES-IEM Miri Branch chairman Francis Liaw Zhen, saw enthusiastic participation from engineering professionals and students, primarily from the Faculty of Engineering and Science at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia).
It provided attendees with invaluable insights into various aspects of power infrastructure, enhancing their knowledge and understanding of the industry.
Participants delved into crucial topics such as the e-CX Database, Network System Reinforcement, and Overhead Lines Maintenance.
Meheron Selowara Joo, Chairman of the IEM Miri Branch and a senior lecturer in the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering, also shared tips on becoming a professional engineer.
A highlight of the visit was the tour of the Extra High Voltage (EHV) substation, where participants gained first-hand experience and knowledge about its purpose and operational intricacies.
“The event provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and professional development, fostering a deeper understanding of power systems and infrastructure management among the participants,” it said in a statement.
The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), established in 1959, aims to promote and advance the science and profession of engineering across all disciplines, facilitating the exchange of information and ideas related to engineering.
It operates under the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) as a governmental executive body. The Young Engineers Section (YES) is a subsidiary group under IEM that gathers and cultivates young engineers to be future leaders in their respective fields.
