BINTULU: The Bintulu Marathon 2024 (BM2024) will be held on Aug 11.
Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Datuk Muhammad Yakup Kari said the event organised with strategic partner Bintulu Port Holdings Sdn Bhd in collaboration with government agencies and other co-sponsors, is expected to attract a much higher participation this year.
He said in addition to improving the image of Bintulu, this event will also put it on the world map and will be a priority in the state’s tourism agenda.
“We believe in Bintulu’s potential as a sports tourism destination,” he said, inviting more agencies, organisations, government, private sector and individuals to come forward.
“Currently, runners who have registered come from 12 countries namely Malaysia, Brunei, Sweden, Belgium, Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan, China, South Africa and Kenya.”
Yakup said this at a Bintulu Marathon 2024 media conference at Wisma Bintulu, Friday afternoon.
He said the event will feature four categories namely 42km (full marathon), 21km (half marathon), 10km and 6km (fun run).
Also present were Deputy Resident of Bintulu Division Abang Zainuddin Abang Turkey and Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad Group’s Corporate Services Senior Manager, Maslihah Tioh.
