SARATOK: The Sarawak government will upgrade the jetty (wharf) across from the town here as well as the bridge across the Paon River.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said a total of RM2 million allocated under the Betong Divisional Development Agency (BDDA) will be utilised.
“It is a very important facility for the community, especially those who commute by boat.
“Therefore, I hope that with the completion of the facility, it will be a relief to users,” he said.
He said this after officiating at the 2024 Gawai Dayak Ngiling Bidai Ceremony at Rengan Longhouse, Selambong, today.
Earlier, he also disclosed the Sarawak government’s initiative through BDDA to build a Riverbank Protection Project along Krian River near Saratok Town.
“Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg informed about this during the Betong Division 2024 Gawai Dayak Ngabang Ceremony in Betong recently.
“The cost is RM91,279,800 and God willing it will be implemented soon.
“The project will become a new icon in Saratok due to its location as the main venue of the boat racing regatta every year,” he said.
Mohamad is confident that it can attract tourists to come here, thereby improving the socioeconomics of the local population.
He also emphasised the importance of maintaining political stability and unity to enable the people to enjoy the development that is being implemented.
During the event in Selambong, Mohamad was accompanied by his wife Norlida Sharkawi.
Senator Pele Peter Tinggom, Deputy Head of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Kalaka Branch Councillor Kasdi Pandi, who is also exco member of PBB Sarawak Youth Movement, PBB Kalaka branch secretary Gapor Ahmad and representatives of the Kalaka Branch Youth Wing were also present.
