MIRI: The Zone 6 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) has launched an operation codenamed ‘Ops Kuda Laut’ to ensure that businesses have fully functional fire safety system in their premises.

Head of Operation Awangku Mohd Hazmin Awang Zainal said that the operation started from Thursday (June 20) with surprise checks at various premises in and outside the city.

“This time, five teams will be mobilised to the premises that had been targeted.

“Our target is to inspect as many as 70 business premises, including offices, shops, supermarkets, social places and residential areas around Miri,” he said after launching the Zone 6 Bomba ‘Ops Kuda Laut’ yesterday (June 20).

Awangku added that the operation aims to ensure that fire safety installation systems (control panel) are functioning properly in each premises.

Such an operation will involve five fire and rescue station chiefs and 15 supervisors from Lopeng, Miri Sentral, Marudi, Batu Niah and Lutong stations.

Last year, 33 premises in the city were found to have committed offences such as tampering with, hiding and deactivating their control panels.
