KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here ordered a couple to maintain a peace bond for six months after they injured each other over the boyfriend’s online gambling habits.

The 29-year-old man and 25-year-old woman both pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to charges under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The court ordered them to maintain the peace for six months with a surety of RM500 each, along with a local surety.

Both of them committed the offense in a car along Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa around 4.35am on Feb 25.

Based on the case facts, the girlfriend, who is a deejay at an entertainment centre, was picked up by her boyfriend after finishing work.

During the drive home, a dispute arose, leading to the boyfriend punching his girlfriend in the eye and hitting her body after stopping the car at the roadside.

In retaliation, the woman slapped her boyfriend’s head and bit his arm and back before exiting the vehicle to escape.

As a result, the woman sustained a bruised right eye and scratches on her back, while the boyfriend sustained bruising from the bites.

It was understood that the cause of the incident stemmed from the woman reprimanding her boyfriend to stop gambling as he had spent a lot of money and lose badly.

Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while, the couple were unrepresented by counsel.
