SARIKEI: The fully completed Masjid Al-Muttaqin, with a cost of RM9.5 million, is now prepared to accommodate up to 2,500 worshippers at a time.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who inaugurated the upgraded mosque, expressed his admiration for the transformation of the 41-year-old mosque.

During his Friday prayers at the new mosque, he conveyed his gratitude to all those involved in enhancing the mosque, which now boasts state-of-the-art amenities.

“In 2019, when I visited this mosque, I emphasized the importance of upgrading all areas of the mosque to ensure worshippers’ comfort.

“Now that the mosque is upgraded, it is our responsibility to upgrade ourselves so that we can better serve the community,” he stated while officiating the Masjid Al-Muttaqin on June 21.

Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, who also attended the ceremony, stressed the crucial role of the mosque committee members.

He highlighted that their responsibilities extend beyond religious activities, encompassing community, recreational, social, and economic programmes.

Furthermore, the Kuala Rajang assemblyman, who also serves as the Sarikei Islamic Welfare Trust Board (Lakisri) chairman, urged the entire community to regard the mosque as a shared asset, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility.

He called for the maintenance of the mosque’s cleanliness to be embraced as a cultural practice, ensuring that the mosque remains a welcoming and pristine place for all.
