KUCHING: A 20-year-old youth fabricated a police report claiming he was robbed, solely to gain the attention and affection of his biological father.

However, the student from a higher education institution faced consequences when he was fined RM800 in default of two weeks in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 182 of the Penal Code, read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

According to the charge, he verbally informed the police that he had been robbed while returning from his place of study.

The accused was charged with making the false report at the Kota Sentosa Police Station around 9 pm on March 28, 2023.

Based on the case facts, during the incident, the complainant was a police officer investigating the robbery report claimed by the accused.

The accused reported that he was kicked from behind by one of three unknown men, causing him to fall by the roadside.

The three men were allegedly riding two motorcycles, and one of them brandished a knife and snatched the accused’s backpack containing RM200 and several passport photos.

However, the investigation revealed that the accused had made a false report as no such incident had occurred.

The accused admitted to making the false report solely to see if his father still cared for him.

Moreover, the accused felt neglected since his father remarried seven years ago.

Since his parents’ divorce, his mother moved to Kuala Lumpur, and he had been living alone in a village in Bau after his late grandfather passed away.

The case was prosecuted by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the accused was not represented by a counsel.
