KUCHING: The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has been instructed to release a sum of RM100 million for Sarawak to assist the state in speeding up the development of dilapidated school and clinic projects in the rural areas.

In announcing this, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the matter will be arranged this coming Monday.

“Since RM200 million was mentioned (by Premier earlier), this Monday, I will instruct the MOF to release RM100 million so it can be utilised without any issues.

“Otherwise, every time I meet the Premier, he asks when the debts will be paid. I don’t want that to happen,” he said.

He was addressing the 2024 state-level Gawai Dayak gala dinner held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night.

He agreed there is a need to improve dilapidated schools, clinics, and even build the Sarawak Cancer Hospital.

“If we can expedite the process, we should approve it. If not, Sarawak should prioritise it first. It’s simple.

“We don’t need bureaucratic hurdles that would cause further delays. There are some projects aimed at repairing clinics in Kapit. There’s no need to wait for approval from Putrajaya.

“This will simplify and speed up projects, thus benefiting the people, and demonstrate trust between local, state, and federal levels.

“This is the trust we want to build to manage projects for the people,” said Anwar.
