SIBU: Education is the foundation of the nation and individual growth, said Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek.
According to him, the field of learning is not only about acquiring knowledge but also about character formation, broadening one’s view and perspective of the world.
“As Bukit Assek assemblyman, I am not only focused on upgrading the schools in my area but also concerned about your academics,” he said when speaking at the presentation of educational incentives to students who obtained excellent results in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Assek in Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce here, yesterday (June 22).
Chieng explained that since 2022, he has given incentive gifts to students who have achieved excellent results in SPM, Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) and Unified Education Certificate (UEC).
“This incentive gift is not only a recognition of your past efforts but also an encouragement for your future studies.
“I hope you will take this as motivation to continue to maintain a diligent and persevering attitude and always strive for excellence,” he emphasised.
He also described the success of the students as being due to the hard work of the teachers in addition to the strong encouragement from their parents.
“We should always remember and be grateful for the hard work of the teachers, as well as the support and encouragement from your parents is important for your development. Always have a grateful heart, respect the teachers and also appreciate your parents,” Chieng added.
A total of 13 students of SMK Bukit Assek received incentive gifts from Chieng.
Also present were SMK Bukit Assek principal, Nicholas Kanyan and president of the Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) of SMK Bukit Assek, Helena Adis.
