KUCHING: A total of 112 Immigration personnel not only received their Excellence Service Awards but also BSN Premium Savings Certificates worth RM1,000 each in a ceremony held at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yakub here yesterday.
The ceremony was officiated at by Deputy Home Minister, Dato’ Masir Kujat who was accompanied by Director-General of Immigration, Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali.
Mustafar in his speech stressed that outsiders who have bad intentions against the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) are warned not to try to do mischief to the organisation.
He added that there were those who challenged Immigration officers with unethical actions and against the law to get what they wanted.
“For example, those who have violated the law for overstaying or no valid travel documents, tried to escape from JIM.
“I want to advise those who are always trying to challenge the law not to do so because we will take action against you without any compromise.
“I also want to warn them that although there are black sheep in the organisation disciplinary actions have been taken against them,” he stressed.
Last Monday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said six Immigration enforcement officers were charged in the Special Corruption Court here on charges of accepting bribes of between RM100 and RM1,000 per person, through online bank transaction.
All the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 165 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment of up to two years or fine or both upon conviction.
Mustafar said action would also be taken internally to which all the department staffers are reminded never to break the law.
“Excellence is not only measured in terms of employment but also in terms of ethics, mind, codes of conduct and other cultures which constitute a favourable turn to prevent negative effects such as corruption,” he explained.
