KUCHING: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), in collaboration with the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, held a Project Delivery & Technology (PD&T) and Partners Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Conference 2024.

The conference was officiated by Ir. Mohd Hatta Zakaria, director general of Malaysia’s Occupational Safety and Health Council today (June 25).

The conference also marks the soft launch of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Week 2024.

OSH Week is an annual event celebrated in the second week of July each year since its establishment in 2006, following the approval and directive of the Malaysian Cabinet on May 24, 2006.

The theme for OSH Week this year is “Revolutionising the OSH Landscape: Post Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022 and Factories and Machinery (Repeal) Act 2022”.

The implementation period of OSH Week starts as early as June, coinciding with the enforcement date of the Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022, until July 31, 2024.

“The organisation of this conference is part of PETRONAS’ continuous efforts aimed at enhancing awareness and standards of occupational safety and health in tripartite-concept workplaces,” it said in a statement.

The conference also signifies a unified commitment towards excellence in health, safety, and the environment. It underscores PETRONAS’ commitment aligned with the conference theme towards “Mission Zero Possible: Commitment and Accountability”.

Through various initiatives, PETRONAS has significantly contributed to the training and development of SHOs, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge to address dynamic challenges in occupational safety and health.

The National Occupational Safety and Health Master Plan 2021-2025 or OSHMP25 aims to further strengthen the establishment of a “Safe and Healthy Work Culture” among employers and workers, and the conference is one of the initiatives under Strategic Core 6, Strengthening OSH Through Technology.

The conference is crucial in efforts to create a safer and more efficient work environment through technology integration, aligning with the evolving national OSH landscape following the enforcement of the Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022, which came into effect on June 1, 2024.
