NIBONG TEBAL: The Sungai Bakap electorate is urged to vote for a knowledgeable and character-driven candidate who can contribute to the development of the state constituency, PKR Women’s chief Fadhlina Sidek said.

Fadhlina, who is also Nibong Tebal MP, stressed the need for a quality leader to develop Sungai Bakap in terms of infrastructure, economy, social welfare, religion, unity and education.

“To all Sungai Bakap voters, this Unity candidate (Dr Joohari Ariffin) is exceptional. He is intelligent and of strong character and integrity and has excellent mannerisms.

“As the Education Minister, I am concerned if this candidate is continually questioned because we are building a generation that truly values education,” she said during a Unity ceramah at Taman Jawi Indah here last night.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohammad Abdul Hamid, who is also the Batu Maung assemblyman and Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Sungai Bakap by-election, Dr Joohari Ariffin.

Fadhlina said Joohari, a former teacher from Sungai Bakap, can be trusted to provide excellent education services for the locals.

Earlier, after visiting the media centre for the polls at the Rakan Muda Complex, Fadhlina praised  Joohari’s background as an educator and expressed confidence in his capability to make significant improvements, especially in infrastructure and in addressing local issues.

On the campaign so far, Fadhlina said she was pleased with the commitment shown by the Unity Government parties’ machinery, who have been working hard to secure a win for the PH candidate.

In the by-election on July 6, Joohari will face Nibong Tebal PAS vice-chief Abidin Ismail, representing PN, in a straight fight.

The by-election was called following the death of the incumbent, Nor Zamri Latiff, on May 24 due to stomach inflammation. – BERNAMA
