Immigration sweep nets 14 undocumented migrants

KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department have arrested 14 individuals of various foreign nationalities in a series of operations on Monday (June 24).

The operations focused on eateries and shared residences around Kuching and Kota Samarahan.

Acting on gathered intelligence, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit examined a total of 26 individuals for their documentation and of these, 14 were taken into custody.

Eight of them were arrested at shared residences while, six were arrested at eateries.

The foreign detainees were found to be overstaying, lacking valid travel documents and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

All of them are being investigated under the Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The public are encouraged to report any information regarding the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
