KAPIT: The Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari is returning this year and will be held from July 12 to 14, said Kapit Resident Galong Luang.

Galong, who is also the chairman of the Main Committee for the 27th Edition of the Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari 2024, said that the Raft Safari was an annual event registered in the annual calendar of the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts.

“This year’s edition returns to the Bukit Mabong District and Kapit District after being held in the Song District last year.

“It will be held at Rh Bajai, Nanga Kain in Bukit Mabong as the first departure point, followed by a stop and second departure at Rh Ukau, Nanga Bawai, Kapit, and ending at the Kapit Passenger Terminal, Kapit Town on July 14, 2024,” he said.

Galong revealed this during an interview with the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) recently.
He added that five categories would be contested in this year’s race, namely the Open Men’s Bamboo Raft Category, Open Women’s Bamboo Raft Category, Open Mixed Rowing Boat (Men and Women) Category, Open Mixed Double Canoe (Men and Women) Category and the Decorated Raft Category.

The winners of the Open Men’s Bamboo Raft Category and Open Women’s Bamboo Raft Category will receive a cash prize of RM6,000 along with a challenge trophy, medal and certificate.

Meanwhile, the winners of the Open Mixed Rowing Boat (Men and Women) Category will bring home a cash prize of RM4,000 along with a challenge trophy, medal and certificate.

For the Open Mixed Double Canoe (Men and Women) Category, the winners will receive a cash prize of RM1,000 along with a challenge trophy, medal, and certificate while the winners of the Decorated Raft Category will go home with a cash prize of RM2,000 along with a certificate.

The public, government agencies, associations, and organisations are encouraged to participate in this competition with as many entries as possible.
