SIBU: The Service Centre of Sibu MP Oscar Ling Chai Yew is currently helping to register people’s names, especially the owners of yellow gas cylinders (MyGaz) who have yet to change their gas cylinders to red or green gas cylinders.

According to Ling, there are still many who have yellow cylinders and want to change them to red cylinders but are unable to do so.

“Therefore, we help collect their names to be submitted to Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) so that they are given priority for the exchange of gas cylinders.

“The response is very good and more than 800 people or names have already registered. This is one of our ways to help the people. The process of changing the gas cylinder may take several weeks or a month,” he told reporters at the petrol subsidy programme held at A1 Petrol Station in Permai here today (July 6).

The programme, which was organised by Ling’s service centre in collaboration with the Shell gas station, received an overwhelming response from the public.

According to Ling, when people contact the gas distributors here, the distributors claim that they do not have enough gas cylinders supplied to replace the yellow cylinders in the market.

“So this is a problem and we hope the state government will consider giving licenses to other suppliers to sell and distribute this subsidised gas.

“We cannot fully depend on PETROS because they have not been able to meet the market demand so far. If we give a monopoly to just one company, this will only cause problems for the people,” he stressed.

Touching on the petrol subsidy programme, Ling said it was one of the ways the Madani government helped ease the burden on the people’s lives in addition to assistance from the people’s elected representative.

The programme, he added, is more focused on motorcyclists since most of them are from the B40 group.
