KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, attended the Sarawak State Level Majlis Perhimpunan Maal Hijrah at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre today.

They were welcomed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Quran verses using the Mushaf Braille Book by Aleeya Nuraishah Mohamad Mahdi, followed by Tadabbur of the holy verses of the Quran by Sahibus Samahah Datuk Kipli Haji Yassin, Mufti of Sarawak.

Sarawak Islamic Council chairman Datuk Misnu Taha, delivered a speech during the event.

The event also saw Wan Junaidi presenting the Sarawak State Level Maal Hijrah Awards for the Year 1446H/2024M.

Prof Dr Shahrul Razid Sarbini received an award in the Research & Development category while the award for Muslim Public Servant went to Datuk Abdullah Julaihi. Les Anak Met was recognised in the Non-Muslim Public Servant category. The Brother-in-Faith award went to Mohd Chathazman Abdullah, and Iqbal Abdollah was honored in the Volunteer category. In the Youth category, Mohamad Akram Mohamed Karim received recognition.

The award for Mosque Management & Administration was given to Al-Hidayah Mosque in Kampung Bako, Kuching. Surau Darul Mukmin in Kampung Riam Jaya, Miri, was recognised in the Surau Management & Administration category. SKA Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hassan, Kuching, received the award for Primary Religious School.

Meanwhile, Amirul Adib Seman was honored as the top student in the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia, and Awang Muhammad Hazim Syazwan Awang Nazri was recognised for his outstanding performance in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

The Brother-in-Faith award was also given to Hajah Alizawati Abdullah @ Alice Mujan Anyi. The award for Secondary Religious School went to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi, Kuching, and Selina Ling Abdul Hamid was honored as the top student in the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM).

Also present were Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Deputy State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications cum organising chairman of the event Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
