KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) in collaboration with the Sarawak Information Department (JAPEN) will be managing the media centres for the upcoming 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para Sukma.

The media centre is very important to give the best cooperation so that no unwanted incidents happen between the media centre staff and journalists.

In preparation for this responsibility, UKAS has organised a workshop on SUKMA and Para Sukma Media Centre Management from July 9 to 10 at a prominent hotel in the city.

UKAS officers from various divisions and headquarters attended the workshop which covers media centre management briefing from Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, Sarawak JAPEN Media and Corporate Communications Division chief assistant director Ajes Tuah, and Sarawak JAPEN Cyber Media Division chief assistant director Sri Kestury Mohammed Zamhari.

UKAS director Samuel Simon, said that those in charge must give their full commitment in helping journalists obtain information, while ensuring the media centre maintains a positive reputation among visiting journalists.

“This is what we need to avoid because it will pollute the smoothness of the organisation of SUKMA, as it is a comprehensive event that does not only focus on sports.

Also present were UKAS deputy director Joachim Paggang Jabong, its senior officers and representatives from JAPEN Sarawak.
