KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) is set to revamp its work culture in response to the state government’s call to deliver various initiatives to the people.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said the change is being implemented following advice from Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“Following Premier’s advice, UKAS will hold an in-house seminar to update our culture, methods, and new areas of work.
“This is because of the numerous government initiatives, especially those announced by the Premier, meaning that UKAS staff tasks will no longer be as usual, requiring a more proactive approach,” he said during the UKAS Ngiling Tikai ceremony here yesterday (July 7).
Additionally, the Semop assemblyman said he received advice from Abang Johari to form a collaboration with Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (AZAM), particularly in carrying out new programmes.
Abdullah Saidol said the partnership aims to help the Premier deliver government initiatives more effectively.
“AZAM and UKAS will work more closely together, re-evaluating our work methods to plan further ahead with more proactive approaches, especially involving the community and other ministries,” he added.
He noted that several meetings with the AZAM management have been held to review the workflow, planning, and programmes being conducted to incorporate UKAS initiatives.
These programme will also involve media agencies in Sarawak to bridge the understanding gap of government initiatives among the people.
Among those present were UKAS director Samuel Simon, TVS chief media officer Mohamad Sardon Zainal and Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA) president Ronnie Teo.
