BELAGA: Belaga residents are urged to embrace new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) as times evolve.

“It is a digitally advanced world we live in today, your personal data is important and you should not lose your phones either, especially now that scams are rampant.

“Have your phones with you at all times, it is a different world that we live in today,” Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said.

Ugak, who is also the Deputy Digital Minister, said this at the ‘Pesta Do Ledoh’ closing ceremony at the Uma Kahei longhouse’s community hall on Saturday (July 6).

“My advice to all of you is to know there is a difference between the Ministry of Digital and the Ministry of Communications.

“Under my ministry we manage  – 5G, WiFi and the National Digital Network (Jendela),” he said.

Ugak shared that in the coming months, artificial intelligence will then be added under his ministry’s purview.

Meanwhile, he urged all longhouse chiefs to receive support from the respective women and youth chiefs of each longhouse to adapt to the change of times.

He said both generations, young and old, must help one another, especially since times have changed.

“Maren Uma (longhouse chief) is still young, she needs continuous advice.

“Despite the difference in generation, we need to be united, the older generation can also learn from the younger generation, that way the longhouse can all move forward.”

Towards the end of the event, Ugak allocated RM30,000 to Uma Kahei’s Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK).
Present at the event were acting district officer for Belaga, Bidah Lujah; Belaga police chief DSP Jimbai Bala, Temenggong (community leader) Ajang Sirek and Uma Kahei Maren Uma (longhouse chief), Tijan Hendrick Hank.
