KUALA LUMPUR: It is hoped that the top leadership of Pakatan Harapan (PH) will consider fielding a woman candidate in the by-election for the Semenyih State Constituency on March 2.
Srikandi Bersatu Head Datuk Seri Rina Harun said the consideration was valid as the number of women and men voters were almost equal besides the availability of eligible women candidates of calibre.
“Not only in Semenyih, but for the whole of Malaysia women voters make up 50 per cent of the total,” she told reporters after officiating the Dialogue With Malaysian Women Entrepreneurs : Women Drive the National Economy, today.
Rina said the Bersatu Women’s Wing had already submitted its list of candidates for consideration by the top party leadership.
“For the moment, we (PH) have yet to meet at the leadership level (on the proposed candidate of the Semenyih by-election). Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (PH Chairman) is also abroad still,” she said.
Commenting further, Rina, who is also the Rural Development Minister, said whoever was the candidate selected, the Bersatu Women’s Wing would give its full cooperation and support in defending the seat. – Bernama
