SIBU: Sibu Life Care Society (SLCS) has received a donation in the form of a hospital bed from Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.

The donation is part of efforts to strengthen support for individuals who need health assistance in Sibu.
SLCS, a well established non-profit organisation, has played an important role in helping the less fortunate by providing medical equipment and personal items.

“This organisation’s initiative allows patients who cannot afford expensive medical equipment to get it through the equipment loan programme such as hospital beds with a deposit of RM500,” said Tiang.

“This service is very meaningful to ensure that important treatment can be enjoyed in addition to ensuring that medical equipment that may be beyond the financial means of some individuals can be accessed,” he noted, after handing over the hospital bed costing RM1,600, at SLCS in Brooke Drive here on yesterday (July 8).

According to the Pelawan assemblyman, he fully supports the provision of medical equipment to the needy.

He said in public health, there are many unfortunate groups struggling to buy the necessary medical equipment.

“I thank the SLCS for their efforts in providing much needed assistance and with this donation, they have given new hope to those who depend on external support to meet their health needs.”

The organisation is also expanding their reach by introducing an ambulance service in response to the lack of emergency vehicles.

Tiang invited the community in Sibu in particular to support the initiative by encouraging people to contribute resources or funds.

“We need every individual to participate in this effort in order to make the people of Sibu a society that cares for the welfare of others.”

Also present were SLCS chairman Chew Ching Kong and SLCS treasurer Hii Hong Wee.
