SIBU: The Sarawak Malaysia Games (Sukma) team proved their prowess by winning the Sarawak International Volleyball Invitational Tournament 2024 in the women’s category, while Bangkok (Thailand) won the men’s category.
Sarakham of Thailand and Hero 99 (Malaysia) were placed second and third, respectively, in the women’s category.
Sarawak Sukma A, Saraburi of Thailand and Sarawak Senior were second, third and fourth, respectively, in the men’s category.
Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek officiated the closing ceremony of the week-long tournament at Sibu Volleyball Indoor Stadium, Rejang Park here, yesterday.
A total of 11 teams, including from Australia and Thailand, participated in the tournament hosted by Sibu Volleyball Association, which started on July 2.
The tournament is a preparation for the 21st Sukma to be held nexct month where Sibu will host volleyball, badminton and football.
Chieng mentioned that Sarawak is ready to co-host the 2027 SEA Games and hopes that Sibu can be the location for the volleyball tournament, given the strong support from the public and the top facilities available here.
Among those present were Sarawak Volleyball Association deputy president Dr Gregory Hii Sui Cheng and Sibu Volleyball Association chairman Datuk Moh Wung Ming.
