KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak branch will continue to offer various programmes to assist the federal and state government to achieve the target of producing 51 per cent of the total number of Bumiputera professionals and technocrats in the country.

Deputy Rector (Academic Affairs and International) Professor Dr Mohammad Isa Mohamadin said the programmes included academic fields such as engineering, science and business.

“However, apart from our academic programmes, we are also offering various programmes in the context of entrepreneurship.

“For example, we have various activities where entrepreneurs come to our campus and share their experiences with our students.

“We also have the Malaysian Academy of SME and Entrepreneurship Development (MASMED) located here in our campus,” he said when met by reporters after officiating at the presentation of UiTM Global Ambassador (UGLAM) appointment at UiTM Samarahan Campus here today.

MASMED UiTM, according to Mohammad Isa, is a special unit that assists in developing entrepreneurship programmes on its campus.

“That being said, UiTM is not left behind when it comes to achieving such aspiration and target given by the government,” he added.

Recently, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said UiTM plays a crucial role in assisting the government in achieving the target of producing the 51 per cent of Bumiputera professionals and technocrats.

Referring to a report from Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM), Ahmad Zahid emphasised the necessity of the efforts, noting the absence of any professionals or technical field where Bumiputeras have attained the targeted percentage.

“Back in the days when UiTM was known as ITM (Institut Teknologi Mara), the late Tun Arshad Ayub was a trailblazer in the field of professional and technical education.

“The government and I aspire to see another Arshad Ayub emerge from UiTM, allowing us to accelerate progress towards our objectives,” he said ,recently.
