KUCHING: According to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, all health facilities in Sarawak’s nine divisions, where 488 sporting events for the upcoming 21st Malaysian Games (SUKMA) will take place, are fully prepared and in excellent condition.

Ensuring the availability of health services is a top priority for the Sarawak Government, as they aim to prevent any unfortunate incidents during this significant sporting event.

Dr Sim emphasised the involvement of the health sector in organizing the games, with ambulances ready to handle any unforeseen incidents, such as fainting or sudden death.

Speaking at a press conference held after the opening ceremony of the 8th Asia Pacific Conference on Public Health (APCPH) at Pullman Hotel, Dr Sim, who is also the Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, emphasized that hosting SUKMA is a collective responsibility. He urged all sectors to play their respective roles.

Dr Sim highlighted the ongoing upgrades of many municipal facilities being used for SUKMA. These upgrades are being funded through a joint effort by local authorities, the Sarawak Government, and the Federal Government.
