KUCHING: The nine media centres for the upcoming 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) will be equipped with top-class Internet connectivity, according to Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol.
He said the media centres, stationed across all nine divisions of Sarawak for the entirety of the Games, are crucial in facilitating media personnel in their tasks.
He added that Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had specifically instructed him to ensure good Internet connectivity at all the media centres.
“During a courtesy visit to the Premier earlier, he stressed that the most important aspect of our work is to ensure our media centres have top-class Internet.
“We had to write a special letter to the agency responsible for ensuring our Internet and phone lines in all media centres are glitch-free.
“The tasks at the media centres will heavily depend on the phone and Internet lines, in addition to transportation and logistics.”
Abdullah said this when officiating the closing ceremony of the Sukma Management Workshop held at Imperial Hotel here on Wednesday (July 10).
Moreover, he shared that Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah had urged all media personnel to represent Sarawak to the best of their ability, especially in managing media affairs.
“People will want to know the progress of their athletes competing in Sarawak, and of course, the media will report on major channels about the results of each event.
“But at the same time, there will also be media reports through social media platforms sharing experiences, like first-time visits to Miri, Limbang and Mukah.
“They will talk to their family and friends back home. This could lead to more visitors in the future who want to come to Kuching and Sarawak for the food and hospitality,” he said.
He further noted that there is a lot of good news about what is happening in Sarawak, from political and economic developments to the information being disseminated.
“We can garner support on how we manage Sarawak in various aspects. If we do well, it will be easier when we eventually host the upcoming SEA Games 2027,” he added.
