KUCHING: Details on the procedure for securing tickets to events at Sarawak Stadium for the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) will be announced soon, said Datuk Hii Chang Kee, the Games’ chief executive officer.

He said that the ticketing mechanism must first be approved by SUKMA’s main committee before being made public.

“We will announce the mechanism for obtaining tickets soon because we need to present this matter to the main committee first, and once it is finalised, we will announce how to get the tickets and so forth,” Hii told reporters during a press conference after inspecting the medal presentation setup and the flag-raising rehearsal at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre today (July 14).

He also said that the opening ceremony is expected to draw 30,000 members of the public, with an additional 10,000 seats reserved for athletes and distinguished guests.

Earlier on the same day, a ticket distribution event at Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall concluded over an hour early due to a sold-out crowd.

For those unable to secure tickets, Hii said that the event could still be enjoyed via live broadcasts on various media outlets and at ‘Celebration Square’ where the event will be displayed on LCD screens.

The series of events for SUKMA will kick off with the opening ceremony at Sarawak Stadium on August 17. This will be followed by the SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 dinner at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on August 21, and the closing ceremony back at the Sarawak Stadium on August 24.

In an effort to make the Games accessible, entry to the Sarawak Stadium will be free for early attendees and tickets will not be sold.

Also present was Deputy Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap.
