KUCHING: The Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) is working with the federal government to develop a new act aimed at strengthening cybersecurity policies.
SMA general manager Datuk Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng said SMA’s role is to focus on cybersecurity policy guidelines at the state level.
In addition to cooperating with the federal government, he said the authority will also be developing its own guidelines to enhance cybersecurity measures.
“This initiative targets both government sectors and the private sector. Our primary focus is on critical infrastructure, such as Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and power utilities.
“This will be our first phase. Once we have secured these areas, we will move on to other services and less critical infrastructure providers,” he said during a press conference during the Cyber Security Workshop organised by SMA at the Waterfront Hotel, here today.
Tiong noted that Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS) is implementing its own cybersecurity policies to protect government data and other sensitive information.
“They have established policies, guidelines, and so forth, using ISO2701 or ISMS-certified information, in line with SAINS’s goal of focusing on digital government,” he added.
Speaking on the workshop, he said 24 agencies were invited to participate in the event to draft action strategies related to cybersecurity.
He said the agencies involved are from critical infrastructure service providers.
“We aim to draft out action strategies, cybersecurity strategies, and plans for Sarawak for the next one year, three years, and five years,” he said.
