KUCHING: The construction of the Batang Rambungan bridge here will be re-tendered to a new contractor to complete the project, said Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.
The Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development said that the Batang Rambungan Bridge project’s contract was terminated due to unsatisfactory performance by the previous contractor.
“It has been replaced by a new rescue contractor following several tender evaluations by Public Works Department (PWD).
“The tender process is now in the evaluation stage, and a new contractor may be awarded next month,” he said during a press conference after a briefing on the projects at PWD Fleet Management Branch, Batu Lintang here today.
However, Aidel said although the project will be continued with new contractor, the the eight bridges structure connecting the bridge have been fully completed by the previous contractor.
“The Batang Rambungan bridge project has been terminated at 55 per cent of progress. The remaining progress is to build the central tower of the bridge,” he said.
On a related note, Aidel said the upgrading of Jalan Matang Baru project is another example where the contract was terminated due to the contractor’s poor performance at critical progress of two per cent.
“It has been replaced by a new rescue contractor, and as of the end of June, the progress stands at 27.5 per cent compared to the scheduled 29 per cent, indicating a slight delay of 1.9 per cent.
“However, it is expected to be completed by July 2025. This road project is an upgrading project from present two-lane single carriageway to four-lane double carriageway, spans four kilometres from Simpang Batu Kawah to Matang Jaya,” said Aidel.
