Selangor secures Sukma 2026 host job

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor has been selected as the host for the 22nd Malaysia Games (Sukma) and Para Sukma in 2026.

This was unanimously agreed upon during the 11/2024 meeting of the Malaysian Games Supreme Committee, chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh at the National Sports Council in Bukit Jalil today (July 18).

“Today’s meeting has chosen Selangor as the host for Sukma and Para Sukma in 2026 after Selangor volunteered and received approval from the meeting. Get ready, Selangor, to take over from Sarawak,” she said in an interview with the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

For the 22nd edition, 28 sports have been proposed, with 10 to be contested at the Para Sukma.

Earlier, Selangor State Executive Councilor for Youth, Sports & Entrepreneurship, Najwan Halimi, presented Selangor’s offer to host the biennial event.

Present at the meeting were Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, who is also the Sarawak Sukma contingent chef de mission.

Also present were Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datuk Hii Chang Kee, who is also the CEO of Sukma XXI Sarawak 2024; and Permanent Secretary of Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Morshidi Fredrick.

Sukma Sarawak 2024 will be the largest Sukma in the history of its organisation, which will take place from Aug 17 to 24, with 37 sports and 488 events, surpassing the Sukma 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, which had 31 sports.
