KUCHING: Sarawakian must be united and contribute to the development of the state said Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

He said this was so that Sarawak could achieve its 2030 agenda of becoming a high-income state.

“Whether you’re in a political party, community leaders, teachers or others. We must love our own state.

“We must have that mentality and mindset that Sarawak will be able to move forward and succeed in what we need to achieve,” he said.

He said this to reporters during a Sarawak flag distribution programme organised by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kuching Youth branch and Team Dynamic Kuching at Jalan Padungan here on Saturday (July 20).

Wee also said the 2030 vision is achievable with the present political stability and capable leader in the state.

“Besides that, the Sarawak government is also doing a lot of improvement on infrastructure in the urban, rural and interior areas,” he said.

“Sarawak is moving forward. So, we must spend more time in building the state rather than pointing at each other’s faults, which is not good,” he said.

Wee also reminded Sarawakian not to spoil the good reputation of the state that had been built for many years.

“So, we hoped Sarawak could be the top contributor in terms of its gross domestic product (GDP) to the nation as now it is ranked at third place after Selangor and Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

On the programme, the MBKS mayor said it was a good platform to spread awareness by educating the old and younger generation about Sarawak Day.

“This is the way we show our love and contribute to Sarawak as a part to commemorate the history, sacrifice and achievement of the state,” he said.

The event saw Wee and members of the SUPP Kuching Youth branch and Team Dynamic Kuching hand out about 1,000 Sarawak flags to the public and those in Padungan area.
