MIRI: The ‘Love Yourself’ campaign, also known as ‘Sayangi Dirik Kitak,’ was launched here on Saturday, marking the beginning of a series of health screening programmes to be held across the division this year.

The initiative, a collaboration between Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) and the National Population and Family Board, aims to promote personal health care at the grassroots level.

Sarawak Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, who officiated at the launch highlighted the significance of the campaign.

“This year, there will be seven ‘Love Yourself’ campaign programmes, involving areas such as Tudan, Riam, and Lembah Hijau. The first of these was carried out this morning at Tudan Phase 2,” he said.

Lee emphasised the campaign’s goal of raising public awareness about the importance of personal health care.

“If not us, who else? Others do not know your pain. That’s why we hope this programme will create awareness at the level of common sense, so we understand what it means to love ourselves,” he remarked.

“We want people to understand that we are a healthy society because if the community is not healthy, the government incurs a big budget. If everyone is in good health, we won’t always see a doctor.”

He urged residents to take advantage of the health screenings during the campaign.

The campaign, which is part of BMC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in collaboration with the government, aims to increase public health education and awareness.

“This programme is designed to help people be healthy,” Lee added.

He noted that the Department of Welfare has appointed registered private clinics to provide regular treatment for eligible individuals aged 60 and above, with an allocation of RM500 per year for each person.

Also present was BMC medical director Dr Kenny Yeap.
