KUALA LUMPUR: The Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar attended the coronation ceremony of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the Balairung Seri, Istana Negara yesterday (July 20).

Accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, this event marked Wan Junaidi’s first attendance at a royal coronation since his appointment as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak on January 26 this year.

The ceremony commenced at 10.30am with the arrival of Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah.

It was a grand event that celebrated the sovereignty of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as the nation’s supreme leader, attended by other Malay rulers and governors.

The ambience at the coronation ceremony

Sultan Ibrahim had previously taken the oath and signed the official document of his position as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on January 31.

He was selected by the Malay rulers during a special meeting of the Conference of Rulers on October 27, 2023 for a five-year term, succeeding Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Also present at the ceremony was Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, along with his wife.
