SRI AMAN: A local man was swiftly rescued after nearly drowning in Batang Lupar in the wee hours of today (July 22).

The 24-year-old is believed to have fallen into the river at the Batang Lupar waterfront around 1am.

Firefighters from Sri Aman station rushed to the scene, about 10km away, after being alerted to the incident.

Upon arrival, the team discovered that the victim had already been rescued from the river by his family and passers-by. The victim was comforted by his family at the scene before being handed over to the police for further action.

Meanwhile, those grappling with emotional distress are encouraged to seek support from trained volunteers at Befrienders Kuching at 082-242800 or via email at sam@befrienderskch.org.my.

Befrienders is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing emotional support services from 6.30pm to 9.30pm daily, for those grappling with depression and suicidal ideation.
