KUCHING: A ‘722 Marching Team’ event was held by the SUPP Kuching branch to mark Sarawak Day.

The walk was flagged off at the branch and culminated at the Dataran Ibu Pertiwi.

The team called on all Sarawakians to cherish their homeland, unite, and support Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to continue bringing more development to Sarawak.

“In commemorating July 22, the people have not forgotten the late former Chief Minister Adenan Satem, who initiated the movement for Sarawak’s rights in 2014,” said lawyer Bong Siak Peng who led the effort..

He said the GPS government, led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has inherited Adenan’s legacy and is gradually reclaiming Sarawak’s rights through negotiations based on MA63.

Bong felt this year’s Sarawak Day activities, driven by the GPS government, received more fanfare as Sarawakians are now more enthusiastic.

Malaysia underwent significant political, social, and economic turmoil from 2021 to 2023, coupled with the rise of conservative views and extremism in West Malaysia, he said, adding people have in general become indifferent toward politics.

In contrast, the moderate and people-centric GPS government have led Sarawak to become a role model for Malaysian politics.

Bong called on all Sarawakians, be they in rural or urban areas, to get on the bandwagon of this rapidly advancing economic train, helping to drive and rally in unwavering support of the GPS government in reclaiming all of Sarawak’s rightful entitlements.
