SIBU: A local prominent business figure, Datuk Seri Lau Kueng Chai, was invited to attend the Korean Taekwondo Culture Carnival in Chuncheon, South Korea recently.
The event, among others, ecompassed the World Taekwondo exhibition, the World Taekwondo Fighting championship, the 2024 World Disabled Qualification and the Electronic Taekwondo competition.
According to Lau, who is an advisor to the Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU), exponents from various countries showcased the strength and style of Taekwondo in the competition.
Besides, he said the World Taekwondo Open G2 championship attracted more than 2,000 participants from many countries around the world.
“Every year, l am invited to attend the championship’s opening ceremony as a distinguished guest as well as one of the award presenters,” he said, adding that he also contributed his part towards the development of the sport.
Also present were mayor of Chuncheon-si Gangwon State Government, Yuk Dong-Han; chairman of World Taekwondo Headquarters, Dr Choue Chung-Wom; and secretary-general of Gangwon State City and County Council, Kim Gun-Ok.
