KUCHING: Yayasan Sarawak, in collaboration with Resident and District Offices and the Sarawak Education Department (JPNS), is set to hold a Sarawak Education Expo across 43 locations in the state on Saturday (July 27).

Yayasan director Mersal Abang Rosli said the expo is particularly timely, given that 32,588 students who sat for the SPM exam last year are awaiting their offer letters from higher education institutions.

Additionally, he said, STPM 2023 graduates will be seizing this opportunity as their results have also been announced on Tuesday.

“Unfortunately, despite having suitable qualifications, some students miss out on further education due to challenges such as geographical isolation, connectivity issues, and missed application deadlines.

“To address these obstacles, Yayasan Sarawak is taking strategic and proactive measures by hosting the expo, providing a crucial platform for students to access up-to-date information on educational opportunities, thereby enhancing their prospects for continuing their education,” he said.

The primary goals of the expo are to disseminate information on educational opportunities available in Sarawak, especially from institutions managed by the Sarawak state government or Yayasan Sarawak, enabling students to pursue academic or skill-based courses.

Additionally, the expo aims to provide counselling and guidance services to help students make informed decisions about their future career paths.

Moreover, it allows visitors or graduates to register directly for entry into participating institutions, thereby facilitating immediate educational planning and decision-making.

“The event’s keynote address and launch will be delivered by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at i-CATS University College, and will be broadcast online to all involved districts,” he said

He added that district-level activities will feature exhibitions, counselling sessions, student admissions, school uniform aid distribution, and the awarding of RM500 Premium Savings Certificates to 1,504 top-performing SPM 2023 students across Sarawak.

Notable institutions participating in the expo include Swinburne, UTS, Curtin, i-CATS, Laila Taib College, and Centexs.
