SIBU: The Association of Churches Sarawak (ACS) is hosting the Sarawak Day Prayer Service and Celebration at 7.15pm today (July 24), at the Masland Methodist Church here.

According to chairman of ACS, Reverend Venerable Archdeacon Jose Jol, the theme for this year will be ‘Creating Innovation in Governance, Sharing a Peaceful Life’.

“The event will begin with a welcoming address by District Superintendent of the Methodist Church: Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference Rev Wong Tuong Toh. This will be followed by an opening prayer led by Sibu West District Superintendent, Rev Ting Gin Gin.

“The Vicar of St John’s Anglican Church, Reverend Venerable Archdeacon Jose Jol, will then deliver the key message. The Masland Methodist Church choir will lead the praise and worship segment, after which Bishop Joseph Hii Teck Kwong will perform the benediction.

“The ceremony will conclude with a cake cutting to mark the 61st Sarawak Day, followed by light refreshments,” he said.

He added that this year’s event mark the second time that ACS, Sibu branch has invited interreligious communities, including Baha’is, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs, to join the celebration. This gesture aims to promote unity and peace among Sarawak’s diverse cultural and religious communities.

The service will feature five prayer items focusing on harmony and creative progress in Sarawak, wise governance, the success of Sukma 2024 in Sarawak, and the strengthening of the Gospel Ministry.

“I hope we can journey together as one human family to stay blessed and to live in peace and unity always. We pray that our richest Sarawakian heritage of ‘segulai jalai’ or unity in diversity be passed on to our next generation and so on,” he added.
