BINTULU: Four local men have been arrested for allegedly stealing communications components from telecommunication towers around Bintulu and Miri districts.
Bintulu OCPD Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the arrests were made by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) recently.
“Various equipment used for cutting cables, rolls of cables and battery components, were confiscated from the suspects.
“The suspects are set to be remanded to assist with investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft,” he said.
Background checks showed that the suspects collectively have a record of 10 theft-related offences and eight substance abuse records. In addition, urine tests showed three of them tested positive for methamphetamine.
Nixon stressed that police would not tolerate any form of criminal activity, whether committed by individuals or groups.
