KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here ordered a teenage boy to be placed on a one-year good behaviour bond for purchasing unlicensed lottery tickets in a laundry shop two months ago.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to a charge under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine up to RM5,000 or imprisonment up to six months or both, upon conviction.

Mason meted out the order after hearing the young offender’s social report from the Social Welfare Department today (July 25).

According to the case facts, a team from Kuching Criminal Investigation Division (CID) raided a premise, believed to be operating an unlicensed public lottery tickets business, around 12.45 pm on May 20.

During the operation, the team arrested a teenager in the premises, believing he had purchased the lottery tickets. A handphone and RM60 in cash were also seized from him for evidence.

Investigations found that the offender was in possession of illegal lottery tickets.
