KUCHING: The Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak will have new towers that will incorporate a green energy concept, equipped with solar panels and energy-efficient lighting.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated the launching of the new tower model for the Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak during the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) ‘Majlis Menelusuri Kegemilangan’ held at the mosque here today (26 July).
According to LAKMNS, the project is expected to begin in early 2025. It involves the construction of four main towers, whereby two towers each standing at 75 metres high, and two smaller towers each at 65 metres high.
At the same event, a book published by LAKMNS titled Menelusuri Kegemilangan was also launched.
This book details the establishment and development of mosques under the administration of LAKMNS, including the Kuching City Mosque and the Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak as well as the progress of LAKMNS.
The book also showcases information about the transformation and achievements of LAKMNS since its inception.
On the sideline, when met by reporters after the launching, Turkish ambassador to Malaysia, Emir Salim Yuksel said he was excited to witness the model of the new tower for Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak.
“The towers are similar to Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque in Turkey. In Hagia Sophia it’s very interesting because every tower is a bit different from each other.
“One of it is very classical and two of the towers are a bit modern because those tower have been built in different times, not at once. So, some of them are similar to this tower and it’s very interesting and to see this style all together around the building, four tower all together,” he added.
Also present during the event was Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
