Veterans get more help

SIBU: The federal government is committed to increasing the Department of Veterans Affairs (JHEV) allocation from RM118 million to RM244 million this year, a move aligned with the ‘Insan’ core of the Madani Policy.
Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said this demonstrates the government’s clear dedication to caring for veterans.
The government has also tripled the Living Allowance allocation to RM174 million, benefiting 29,331 ATM veterans to date, with a total payout of RM56 million as of July 10.
Adly said that the ministry will ensure strict oversight of the increased allocation, channeling it effectively through JHEV’s Assistance Schemes.
Veterans are encouraged to register and update their details via the VIBES system to maximise benefits.
With 16,939 ATM veterans, including 4,964 non-pensioned ones, residing in Sarawak, and 1,340 in Sibu alone (313 non-pensioned), Adly urged timely registration.
“Various assistance programs are available, including the Living Allowance Scheme, school and higher education aid, patient equipment support, and disaster relief.
“Registration is crucial for eligible veterans to access these benefits,” he told a press conference at a restaurant today (July 26).
Also present were JHEV Director-General Major General Datuk Zambery Jefry Darus, Sarawak State Branch Director Major Steven Kadir, and representatives from local ATM veteran associations.
