LUNDU: Sarawak will conduct thorough research before any development, assured Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday (July 26).
He was responding to environmental watchdog RimbaWatch’s call for Sabah and Sarawak to investigate the listing of over 80,000 hectares of forested land in East Malaysia.
“RimbaWatch is an NGO concerned about environmental impact and community participation,” Abang Johari said.
“We adhere to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and have our own experts.”
On calls for an investigation into land sales, he said state experts were looking into it.
“We do not proceed with any development without comprehensive research,” he stressed.
Abang Johari added that the new economy, including carbon trading, was aimed at addressing climate change.
“The dilemma now is how to work against climate change,” he said.
