KUCHING: More than 1,000 people, mostly students, turned up for the district Sarawak Education Expo 2024 from as early as 8am at the Arcum Tent, Majma Mall here today.
Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki arrived at the expo around 9am, followed by the online opening ceremony conducted by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg via livestream.
The venue was one of the 43 locations hosting the expo across Sarawak.
Following the opening, Ibrahim officially launched the Kuching District Sarawak Education Expo 2024, witnessed by Kuching Division Resident Dayang Hajah Joanita Azizah and Kuching District Officer Sofhi Jebal.
He then presented aid to 1,200 students from Kuching and Padawan under the Yayasan Sarawak school uniform assistance programme.
Ibrahim thereafter went on a walkabout at the expo visiting the eight different higher institution booths.
The expo featured Yayasan Sarawak, Kolej Laila Taib, Sarawak Skills, i-CATS University College, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, Curtin University Sarawak, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), and Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs).
The event drew mostly school students — 220 students from 27 schools in the Kuching District, and 162 students from 11 schools in the Padawan District.
