KUCHING: Two single-storey houses at Lorong Taman Syn Syn 1B, Matang here, were damaged in a fire last night (July 27).
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the 10.25pm incident as four tenants managed to evacuate to safety.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from Batu Lintang and Padungan stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.
Upon arrival, they found the corner house 80 percent destroyed and the second house was slightly damaged.
In addition, the flames also destroyed two motorcycles in the first house and caused minor damages to another two motorcycles in the second house.
Extinguishing works were promptly performed using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant, followed by overhaul works to ensure that there was no risk of reignition.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the operation ended at 11.44pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
