MIRI: In a concerted effort to raise awareness about cervical cancer, seven dedicated cyclists have set off on an 800km journey from this city to Kuching.
The charity event, dubbed ‘SEPEDA AMAL 2024,’ is organised by the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) and the Removing Obstacles to Cervical Screening (ROSE) Foundation.
The ride was officially flagged off by Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni at a hotel here this morning.
“This is a commendable initiative,” said Lukanisman.
“Cervical cancer is one of the most serious cancers in Sarawak, but it is both avoidable and treatable. We encourage all women to undergo cervical screening at health facilities across the state,” he added.
The charity event aims to not only raise awareness about the importance of cervical cancer screening but also to enhance cancer literacy throughout Sabah and Sarawak.
This event, now in its third iteration, will see the participants arriving in Kuching on August 3.
Also present was Miri mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang.
