KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak has successfully raised a sum of RM300,000 to assist in the renovation works of a Roman Catholic Church at Mile 32.
Special assistant to DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, Michael Kong said the initiative aims to rejuvenate the church and encourage more worshippers to return and participate in church activities.
“This morning, I was joined by church leaders and contractors on-site to discuss the renovation and construction plans.
“Our goal is to complete the refurbishment by December, allowing the congregation to celebrate Christmas in a beautifully renovated church.
“The renovations will include essential repairs, aesthetic enhancements, and updates to make the church more accessible and comfortable for all attendees,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Kong said he believed that a well-maintained church can be a beacon of hope and community for its parishioners.
“By investing in this project, we aim to restore the church to its former glory and create a welcoming space for worship and community gatherings.
“Although this church is outside our constituency of Kuching, our commitment to serving the people remains steadfast.
“We will continue to support initiatives that benefit the broader community, demonstrating that our dedication extends beyond geographical boundaries,” he said.
